In the central building Ensanche, the fourth edition of the Encounter between Peers has been hosted, an initiative framed within the ‘Bizilabe Bilbao’ project promoted by the Bilbao City Council in collaboration with Elhuyar. 21 professional women shared their experiences and challenges with 70 girls, boys, and young people between 10 and 16 years old, who also presented their STEM projects.
The initiative ‘Encounter between Peers 2025’, part of the ‘Bizilabe Bilbao’ project, promoted by the Bilbao City Council in collaboration with Elhuyar, has allowed direct and bidirectional dialogue between minors and professionals in the field of science and technology. An initiative aimed at promoting young talent in the city in this sector.
The central Ensanche building hosted the fourth edition of the meeting on Tuesday afternoon, where 21 professional women shared their experiences and challenges with 70 young people from Bilbao between the ages of 10 and 16, who also presented their STEM projects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
At each workstation, a woman from the professional field of science and technology and a group of young people gathered. First, the young people were introduced to the work of the professional women; subsequently, the young people presented the STEM projects they are carrying out in ‘Bizilabe Bilbao’ to the professionals.
Through the IV Encounter between Peers, the 21 professionals offered advice and suggestions to the children, while also giving them the opportunity to delve deeper into their work in the field of professions linked to science and technology. Throughout the session, the professionals interacted with multiple groups of minors to ensure dynamic and enriching idea exchange.
Thanks to the Encounter between Peers, the youth got firsthand knowledge of women role models and the daily life of professionals in the field of science and technology; they also received guidance to improve their projects.
This initiative represents another step towards building a strong bridge for the future of the youth in Bilbao, contributing to incorporating research and innovation into their daily lives.
‘Bizilabe Bilbao’ was launched in 2017 as an extracurricular program where girls, boys, and young people work on science and technology in a practical and experimental way. These initiatives are possible thanks to the collaboration between various institutions in Bilbao. Institutions, educational centers, companies, and families intertwine, and the result of this network is, among other things, the Encounter between Peers. Additionally, in Bizilabe, throughout the year, STEM professionals visit, as well as outings to companies to get a closer look at the working environments, their contexts, and their professionals.
