The Bilbao City Council presented on Monday the 23 free shows that will be part of the theater and street art program during Aste Nagusia from August 17 to 24 at two venues, the txikigune of Plaza Doña Casilda and Plaza de la Convivencia, featuring 19 Basque, Spanish, and international companies.
The program was unveiled at a press conference at one of the venues, Plaza de la Convivencia, where the Councilor for Equality and Festivities, Itziar Urtasun, spoke. During the event, the Bilbao duo Orain-Bi gave a preview of their show «Mute.»
Urtasun emphasized that the diverse, fun, and high-quality program is designed for audiences of all ages and that the shows will be accessible, «as many pieces will have very little text, making them easy to understand, and the rest will have a sign language interpreter.»
Furthermore, the councilor highlighted the presence of Basque companies in the lineup. «In our closest environment, we have many people who do excellent work in the world of performing arts. That talent needs to be recognized, and as a City Council, we have to promote it. We want all of them to have a space at Aste Nagusia, which is the best showcase,» she pointed out.
Of the 19 companies, seven are from the Basque Country, five from other regions of Spain (Catalonia, Aragon, and Andalusia), and seven are international (Taiwan, France, England, Argentina, Belgium, and Italy).
