  • The Bilbao City Council is implementing various initiatives to advance towards real and effective equality in all areas of life, as well as to build a diverse and inclusive city.

The Bilbao City Council, on the occasion of Lesbian Visibility Day, April 26, begins to disseminate a new awareness campaign with the aim of making visible the reality of lesbian women, as well as promoting equality and respect towards sexual and gender diversity.

As stated by the Councilor for Equality and Festivities, Itziar Urtasun, «this day that we join is a key date to reflect on the need for a society free of prejudices and discrimination. It is time to value their contribution to society in all areas of life and to promote environments where all people can live with dignity and without fear of being judged.»

The City Council reaffirms its commitment to real and effective equality, as well as to the construction of a diverse and inclusive city, welcoming all people with the same rights and opportunities, aligned with the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as with the Bilbao Values Charter within the framework of the Bilbao Balioen Hiria project.

In this sense, the Bilbao City Council is implementing various initiatives to support the work of the LGTBIQ+ community in the Biscayan capital.

CAMPAIGN IMAGE

The image designed for the campaign aims to put lesbian women at the center, with the word «LESBIAN» and the colors of the rainbow, symbolizing diversity. It is complemented by the phrase «Loud and Clear» with the purpose of giving value to the voice of the community, and the motto of the commemorative event «Lesbian Visibility Day. April 26».

The Bilbao City Council invites citizens to be active and contribute to the eradication of any type of discrimination, hatred, or violence based on sexual orientation and gender expression. With that goal, this new campaign will be disseminated through various physical media such as urban furniture, digital screens at municipal headquarters, and on the website www.bilbao.eus, as well as on the City Council’s social media accounts: BILBAO BERDINTASUNA – Facebook, X, and Instagram – and BILBAO UDALA – Facebook, Instagram, and X.
