BILBAO WILL BE THE WORLDWIDE MEETING POINT FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION AT THE GEM 2025 CONFERENCE

For three days, Bilbao will become the global reference point that will bring together prominent academics, institutional representatives, entrepreneurs, and business leaders to discuss the future of entrepreneurship. The institutional opening of the conference will take place next Tuesday, February 18, at 9:00 at Bizkaia Aretoa, in the Mitxelena auditorium. This inauguration ceremony will be attended by Aileen Ionescu-Somers, Global Entrepreneurship Monitor executive; Andoitz Korta, Deputy Minister of Industrial Promotion of the Basque Government; Juan Mari Aburto, Mayor of Bilbao; and Elixabete Etxanobe, General Deputy of Bizkaia.
On February 17, the auditorium of the emblematic B Accelerator Tower (BAT) building will host the institutional welcome event for all participants of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor worldwide network starting at 19:00. This welcome event will be attended by distinguished personalities from the political and economic fields. Among them will be Ainara Basurko, Deputy for Economic Promotion of the Bizkaia Provincial Council; Kontxi Claver, Councilor for Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, and Employment of the Bilbao City Council. Borja Cabezón, CEO of ENISA and Ane de Ariño, Director of Entrepreneurship and Internationalization of the Basque Government.
The opening day on Monday will conclude with a reception, providing attendees an excellent opportunity for networking and sharing insights. The choice of Bilbao as the conference venue reinforces its position as a strategic hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in Bizkaia and Euskadi.
A HIGH-IMPACT INTERNATIONAL EVENT
The GEM Global 2025 Conference will bring together over 400 influential figures in the world of entrepreneurship from more than 52 countries. To date, more than 260 participants from the entrepreneurial sector in Euskadi have registered, highlighting the global interest in this unique event. Additionally, GEM will have representatives from all its delegations in Spain.
It is important to note that days 17 and 19 will be exclusively reserved for GEM network members, while on the 18th, the program will be open to the entrepreneurial ecosystem at both the national and Basque levels. During these days, the conference will offer a comprehensive program with presentations, panel discussions, and practical workshops designed to address the main trends and challenges of global entrepreneurship.
ENTREPRENEURIAL ECOSYSTEM
This event will be a true activator and accelerator of the entrepreneurial community, promoting international cooperation, innovation, and knowledge exchange among ecosystem actors. It will be the meeting point for leading academics in the field of entrepreneurship, and the three Basque universities will also be present: UPV/EHU, University of Deusto, and Mondragon Unibertsitatea.
