BILBAOPOESÍA celebra el Día de Blas de Otero con concierto de Gontzal Mendibil

BILBAOPOESÍA COMMEMORATES THE DAY OF BLAS DE OTERO WITH A MUSICAL PERFORMANCE BY GONTZAL MENDIBIL

The BILBAOPOESÍA Literary Festival, organized by the City Council of Bilbao, celebrates its 26th edition starting tomorrow, Friday, the 14th, until March 22. The Bidebarrieta Library hosts a varied literary and musical program during these days, bringing together prominent figures from the literary world of the Basque Country, Spain, and the international scene.

On Saturday, March 15, the Day of Blas de Otero is celebrated, and the Festival wants to honor his figure with a musical performance by Gontzal Mendibil. The singer-songwriter, accompanied by four musicians, pays tribute to the Bilbao poet by putting music to some of his verses translated into Basque by Basque authors.

Furthermore, in this literary-musical encounter, the album-book «Hitza geratzen zait» will be presented for the first time, published by El Gallo de Oro and the Blas de Otero Foundation. The performance will begin by offering an unreleased recording with the poet’s voice, from the Foundation’s archives.

EARLY DAYS OF BILBAOPOESÍA

One day earlier, on Friday, the 14th, the 26th edition of BILBAOPOESÍA officially begins with «Sukramarkus,» by Mursego on the work of artist Markos Gimeno. This show is part of the annual collaboration that BILBAOPOESÍA maintains with the LORALDIA Festival.

On Sunday, the 16th, the Bidebarrieta Library hosts a display of spoken word with the most current texts by artist Laura Sam, where social criticism, dissident motherhood, generational crises, and eternal political unrest are present. In addition, some of the recited poems will be accompanied by recordings, songs, soundscapes, or voice pedal effects.

«The Journey of Words» is the name of the poetry recital taking place on Monday, March 17. An event that proposes a journey through words, landscapes, and visions of three prominent voices from recent decades such as Isabel Bono, Fernando Chivite, and Pablo García Casado.

Another recital, this time with Harkaitz Cano from San Sebastian, Berta Piñán from Asturias, Laia Noguera from Catalonia, and Joxe Rui Teixeira from Portugal, focuses the agenda of BILBAOPOESÍA on Tuesday, the 18th. Under the name «Voices of the Peninsula,» this event brings together authors from different languages and different seas.

All recitals and concerts will take place at the Bidebarrieta Library at 7:00 p.m. Events on March 15, 16, and 22 will cost 5 euros; the rest will be free, although prior reservation of invitations will be necessary. Tickets and invitations can be obtained on the Bilbao Kultura website.

BILBAOPOESÍA is part of one of the lines of the Bilbao 2023-2033 Cultural Strategic Plan that aims to promote and disseminate poetry among the population of the city, bringing us the work of various authors from the Basque Country, as well as national and international ones.

BIDEBARRIETA KULTURGUNEA is the space at the Bidebarrieta Library dedicated to cultural dissemination. Among its objectives is the promotion of literature, knowledge, and scientific dissemination.
