La Ertzaintza arrested a 35-year-old man in Bilbao this past Saturday after detecting illegal narcotics in his backpack while he was being attended to for feeling unwell in public.
According to the Department of Security, on Saturday night, a patrol from Ertzaintza was called to the neighborhood of Irala in Bilbao where a person was feeling unwell in public. Once on the scene and after suspecting that the individual might be under the influence of narcotics, a superficial preventive search was conducted.
During the search, the officers found that the person was carrying a backpack containing a large quantity of narcotics arranged both in individual doses and in larger bags, as well as 20 blister packs of Viagra pills.
Additionally, in the backpack, they found tools typically used for preparing doses, such as individual plastic bags and a precision scale.
While the officers were examining the seized substances, medical personnel who had been dispatched to the scene attended to the individual and eventually transported him to the hospital under police custody on charges of a crime against public health.
After being discharged from the hospital on Sunday morning, the detainee was taken to police facilities to carry out necessary procedures, and once completed, he was handed over to the judicial authorities.
