THE CITY COUNCIL OF BILBAO STARTS THE EXECUTION WORKS OF THE NEW VERTICAL PUBLIC ELEVATOR ON SAN JOAQUÍN STREET IN BOLUETA
- The works, which are starting now, will last for eight months and will involve a municipal investment of 1,242,906.72 euros.
- The construction of this elevator is part of the Auzokide Plan for the improvement of the city’s neighborhoods and has therefore been prioritized by the residents of District 4.
The City Council of Bilbao begins the construction of a new municipal public elevator. In this case, it is designed and planned for the neighborhood of Bolueta, in District 4, and it will be located specifically between San Joaquín Street –blocks 19 and 21– and Miraflores Avenue –blocks 23 and 79–. This is an area with a steep slope currently resolved by a series of stairs.
Specifically, 1,242,906.72 euros (VAT included) have been allocated for a project with an estimated execution period of eight months.
In line with its commitment to universal accessibility, the City Council will undertake this project with the aim of eliminating an architectural barrier and providing an accessible route that improves connectivity within the neighborhood through a mechanical element. This is a project of general interest, benefiting not only the residents of the nearest buildings to the project site, but the entire community. Taking into account that there are different facilities in the area such as Ikastola Karmelo and future ones like the new Osakidetza Health Center.
The new elevator will overcome a height difference of 12.94 meters, will have two stops and will be realized through a vertical core with a metal structure, covered with laminated glass. It will have capacity for 13 people and 24-hour video surveillance.
The connection to the upper landing will be made on a metal walkway 25.74 meters long and 2.40 meters wide.
Part of the existing stairs will be demolished for the installation of the elevator and will be replaced within the scope of the project, which also includes the reurbanization of the affected area with the placement of new urban furniture.
