
The Bilbao City Council will start the summer season of its sports facilities tomorrow, opening the outdoor pools of Artxanda, Errekalde, and Txurdinaga from 10:00 to 21:00 in May, June, July, and August, and until 20:00 in September. During July and August, the pools of San Inazio and Zorrotza will be used for leisure activities. Bilbao Kirolak has scheduled courses for paddle, tennis, spin-bike, pilates, stretching, aerobic, and zumba from July to September, with registrations starting on June 2. Subscribers to Bilbao Kirolak can access the outdoor pools for free, while non-subscribers can purchase tickets or passes on the Bilbao Kirolak website or at the sports centers. The City Council will kick off the summer season with a free session of water inflatables at the Artxanda outdoor pool on Saturday, May 31, from 12:00 to 15:00.
The City Council has invested €1,438,913.40 in renovation works on its outdoor sports facilities. The facilities will be open daily until September 14, except on August 22, the main day of Aste Nagusia, when all facilities will be closed. The opening hours will be from 10:00 to 21:00 in May, June, July, and August, and until 20:00 in September. In July and August, the pools of Zorrotza and San Inazio will be converted into leisure pools, open daily from 10:00 to 21:00, like the outdoor pools.
Each facility has a defined capacity for both the sunbathing areas and the pools:
– Txurdinaga: Sunbathing area for 2,174 people, outdoor pool for 752 people.
– Artxanda: Sunbathing area for 1,039 people, outdoor pool for 671 people.
– Errekalde: Sunbathing area for 1,074 people, outdoor pool for 454 people.
– Zorrotza: Sunbathing area for 200 people, leisure pool for 121 people.
– San Inazio: Sunbathing area for 198 people, leisure pool for 123 people.
New sunbathing areas will be available at Azkuna Zentroa-Alhóndiga Bilbao and Miribilla. Bilbao Kirolak will increase the number of sunbathing areas at its sports facilities, providing more space for visitors to enjoy the sun. Additionally, new sunbathing areas will be set up at Miribilla and Azkuna Zentroa-Alhóndiga Bilbao.
The City Council will offer free water inflatables at Artxanda to celebrate the start of the summer season. The session is open to all users aged 4 and above, with children under 12 accompanied by an adult and those under 8 requiring adult supervision in the water. One adult can supervise up to 5 children.
Bilbao Kirolak has planned 26 courses with 272 spots for July and September at the San Inazio, Txurdinaga, and La Casilla sports centers. Courses will include paddle and tennis in July and September at San Inazio, and spin bike, aerobic, pilates, stretching, and zumba in September at La Casilla, San Inazio, and Txurdinaga. Registration will open on June 2 through the Bilbao Kirolak website or at the sports centers.
Improvement works have been carried out on the outdoor facilities of the municipal sports centers of Artxanda, Errekalde, and Txurdinaga, with a total investment of €1,438,913.40. The works include upgrades such as the installation of a grandstand for people with disabilities, new ramps and fencing, and the replacement of the entire ceramic pavement with a new, non-slip and hygienic surface specific for pools.
