FREE TRAINING FOR ALL LEVELS
In March, the training workshops for individuals over 16 years old at BiziToki will begin, the new space of the Bilbao City Council dedicated exclusively to promoting cycling and located in Elorrieta. The workshops will address topics related to sustainable mobility, as well as the safe and responsible use of the bicycle in the city.
The program will include a cycling training plan based on the methodology «One more bike,» with free courses from the most basic to the most advanced level to cycle safely in an urban environment.
The two-hour sessions will be held at different levels and schedules, including specific courses for women and individuals with functional diversity with the aim of eliminating social, physical, and psychological barriers.
Interested individuals can sign up through a form available at www.BiziBilbaoBizikletaz.eus, where via a QR code, all information about the workshops and the campaign can be obtained.
The training will continue in the coming months with various themes adapted to Bilbao students from 1st to 4th grade of ESO («Bizikleta eskolan – The bicycle in school») with the aim of promoting the use of the bicycle among this group. Students will receive training in their own schools.
In both cases, it is about identifying the bicycle as an active, healthy, safe, sustainable, and intelligent mode of transportation, and informing and training on regulations, safety, routes, destinations, and the benefits of using the bicycle.
PROGRAM OF SOCIAL INVOLVEMENT ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE CITY
The second part of the campaign consists of holding various activities aimed at promoting social involvement to raise awareness and sensitize about the benefits of using the bicycle. The program includes free events and activities related to cycling in different parts of the city and for all types of audiences.
BICYCLE SUNDAYS
The Bicycle Sundays will be meetings aimed at encouraging daily bicycle use through educational and accessible urban routes. These Sundays will highlight different neighborhoods of Bilbao in each edition. In 2025, they will be held in the districts of Uribarri, Ibaiondo, Deusto, and Begoña, where participants, accompanied by specialized staff, can improve their confidence and safety when cycling in the city. In each of the «Bicycle Sundays» events, various festive activities will be carried out, with the bicycle as the protagonist with the aim of extending and involving all Bilbao residents in the promotion of this sustainable and healthy means of transportation.
In addition to promoting active mobility for the whole family, these events aim to be an opportunity for the bicycle to make the definitive leap in our city and go from being a leisure element to being a means of transportation.
In April, Bilbao will join the global initiative #30daysonabike, which challenges the population to use the bicycle every day in April as a way to incorporate this habit into their daily routine. This campaign seeks to promote a cultural change in urban mobility and advocate for the bicycle as an efficient and healthy transportation alternative.
As part of the European Mobility Week, various activities will be organized, including on Saturday, September 20th, when Arenal will be transformed into a small cycling city for the whole family. In this environment, a road safety circuit will be set up, where people of all ages can learn and practice cycling traffic rules in a safe and controlled environment.
