THE CITY COUNCIL OF BILBAO OFFERS 2,736 PLACES OF EDUCATIONAL LEISURE IN THE MORNING COLONIES, DAY COLONIES, AND STEAM COLONIES THIS SUMMER
- The application deadlines are now open on the municipal website www.bilbao.eus and at 010/ 944010010.
- The Bilbao City Council offers this program with the dual purpose of supporting families in their reconciliation needs during the summer months and giving children the opportunity to have fun, play sports, learn new experiences, and make friends.
2,736 children between 3 and 12 years old (born between 2013 and 2021) can enjoy the municipal educational leisure programs this summer. The Bilbao City Council will once again offer Morning Colonies and Day Colonies, with 2,640 places, and STEAM Colonies, with 96 places, at the Esperantza facility.
The objective of this municipal programming is twofold. On one hand, to support families in their reconciliation needs during the summer months; on the other hand, to give children the opportunity to have fun, play sports, learn new experiences, and make friends.
Furthermore, for the second consecutive year, and following the objectives of the Local Agenda 2030, the City Council will provide families with a reusable tableware kit for free (plate, glass, and cutlery) to be used in certain centers and weeks, microwave-safe tableware made of recycled polypropylene and completely free of Bisphenol A (BPA) that children must bring daily to the colony for use during meals.
“With this experience, we aim to advance in practices that allow us to reduce waste generation, in line with the objectives of the Circular Economy Strategy of Euskadi 2030, which aims to increase the circular material usage rate by 30% by this date, reduce the waste generation rate by 30% per unit of GDP, halve the generation of food waste, and ensure that 100% of plastic packaging is recyclable. Advancing in the construction of a more sustainable and environmentally friendly Euskadi is everyone’s task, and we consider it important to involve children in municipal colonies in this objective,” explains the Councilor for Youth and Sports, Itxaso Erroteta.
