THE BILBAO CITY COUNCIL OFFERS 322 MUNICIPAL WORKSHOPS ON CULTURE, EQUALITY, HEALTH, LEISURE, AND SPORTS FOR THE 2025-2026 COURSE
- The pre-registration period will begin tomorrow, June 18, and will end on September 1, September 16 for leisure and sports courses.
- For courses on culture, equality, and health, registration must be done through www.bilbao.eus, and for leisure and sports courses at www.bilbaokirolak.eus.
- The courses will be held at the Municipal Centers of the 8 districts for adults residing in Bilbao.
The Bilbao City Council has organized 322 municipal workshops for the 2025-2026 course. The workshops are divided into 4 areas: culture, equality, leisure and sports, and health for seniors, with the aim of livening up the free time of Bilbao residents by offering them healthy leisure options while acquiring new knowledge.
The pre-registration period for these workshops will begin tomorrow, Wednesday June 18, and will end on September 1 for courses on equality, culture, and health for seniors, and on September 16 for leisure and sports courses. To facilitate the selection of workshops, 9,000 printed guides of the courses offered will be distributed to the public at various Municipal Centers.
The registration for courses on culture, equality, and health must be done through the municipal website www.bilbao.eus. For leisure and sports courses, registration will be managed through the website www.bilbaokirolak.eus, in person at municipal sports centers, or by phone.
As a novelty, during the pre-registration period for leisure and sports courses, participants can select both centers of interest and specific activities. However, for courses on culture, equality, and health, participants can only choose up to two centers of interest, and registration will continue through the usual channels (phone, municipal centers, and municipal website).
As usual, these courses and workshops will be held at the Municipal Centers of the 8 districts of Bilbao and are aimed at individuals registered in the city and adults.
For courses on culture, equality, and health for seniors, a lottery will be held on September 4 to assign each applicant a registration appointment, which can be checked from September 8 on the City Council’s website, at municipal centers, or by calling 944 010 010 or 010, from Monday to Sunday from 08:00 to 20:00.
For leisure and sports courses, the lottery will take place on September 17 and will automatically assign the spot to which one has pre-registered. All information can be obtained on the Bilbao Kirolak website and/or by calling the Bilbao Kirolak numbers listed in the course and workshop guide.
For the convenience of registering for health courses for seniors, the following phone numbers are also provided: 944 20 44 70 and 944 20 44 53, from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 13:30.
Payment for leisure and sports courses must be made by direct debit. For other courses, payment must be made within three business days of registration. Health courses for seniors are free; for others, the rates listed in the guide apply.
Starting on October 2, a new registration period will open in case there are vacancies in any of the courses, and in this case, no prior registration request will be required.
Regarding leisure and sports courses, there will be waiting lists open throughout the 2025-2026 period, with vacancies open from the 24th to the 10th of the following month if places are not filled from the waitlists.
All courses are scheduled to start in October.
HEALTH FOR SENIORS
The City Council has prepared 102 health workshops, aimed at seniors in the city. These workshops are designed to promote an active lifestyle and prevent sedentary behavior among seniors over 70 years old. They also aim to promote healthy living habits to achieve a better quality of life and provide physical benefits, such as movement safety, and psychological benefits by facilitating communication through group work and social interactions.
A waiting list will be created for interested individuals who have not been able to access the courses.
LEISURE AND SPORTS
A total of 110 different sports groups will be offered, including aerobics, maintenance gymnastics, relaxation, stretching, yoga, or tropical dances, among others. There are also classes for dance improvement, yoga, Chi-kung, or Tai-Chi, where prior knowledge is essential.
As a novelty for these courses, it should be noted that there will be an open waiting list throughout the 2025-2026 period. The entire registration process for these courses will be done through the website www.bilbaokirolak.eus or at the sports centers.
CULTURE
A total of 85 cultural workshops will be offered, including crafts and applied arts, plastic arts, and visual arts, with 33 specialties such as furniture restoration, applied arts, interior decoration, jewelry, textile patterning, bookbinding, leatherwork, floral design, marquetry, patchwork, glass creation, scrapbooking, tiffanys, ceramics, wood carving, watercolor, oil painting, drawing and painting, sculpture, Sumi-E, photography, video, and cinema. This offer has 1,200 spots, distributed across the 8 districts of Bilbao.
This edition continues to offer 2 workshops related to the circular economy: creative recycling and furniture restoration and recycling, where participants will learn to transform materials into objects. Through these workshops, the aim is to raise awareness among the public about maximizing the life of materials and products and reducing waste generation. Additionally, the cultural workshops offer workshops in Basque on digital photography, Sumi-E (black ink drawing), watercolor, and urban sketching (travel sketchbook).
EQUALITY
Related to equality, the City Council will offer 25 workshops. The classes are designed to promote training, social participation, and empowerment of women, taking another step towards achieving equal opportunities between women and men in Bilbao.
The modalities include: Internet and social networks; Introduction to computing; Loving and taking care of oneself through good treatment; Creative writing; Improvisation and body expression workshop; Women artists from a feminist perspective; World female writers from a feminist perspective, and debate and argumentation workshop.
