The program «UN VERANO DE CINE» by the Bilbao City Council will fill the neighborhoods of the Villa with movies and music from July 9th to August 7th.
In total, eight sessions will be offered in all districts of the Villa, featuring musical concerts, short films, and feature films. The program includes classic and recent productions from different genres, as well as Basque and European cinema. The budget allocated for the cultural initiative «Un verano de cine» is part of the Participatory Budgets of 2025.
The Bilbao City Council will offer eight outdoor cinema sessions in various neighborhoods of Villa as part of the «Un verano de cine» initiative. The program will run from July 9th to August 7th, with each evening featuring a movie, a short film, and a musical performance.
The sessions will focus on three Basque directors: Estibaliz Urresola, Paul Urkijo, and Pablo Berger. Additionally, two short films by Euskadi directors, «Dinosaurioak» by Koldo Almandoz and «Dar Dar» by Paul Urkijo, will be showcased. The selection for this summer includes recent productions, classic films, different genres, Basque and European cinema, and some commercial productions.
Each session will start with a concert at 7:00 pm, followed by a short film and then a feature film at 9:00 pm. Four movies will be shown in Spanish, two in Basque, one in both languages, and «Robot Dreams,» which has no dialogue.
The inaugural event for «Un verano de cine» will take place on Wednesday, July 9th, at the Jardines de Gernika in Miribilla, featuring a concert titled «Días de cine y rosas,» followed by the screening of the French short film «Game Over» and the movie «Billy Elliot» by Stephen Daldry. Subtitles will be available in Spanish and Basque for the short film, and the movie will be shown in Spanish.
The remaining sessions will feature concerts by various musical genres such as Miriam Lujua, Soulnettes, Lux Celtae, Carlos Velasco & Hugo Silveira, Esku-txa, Pablo Maza Quartet, and DJ Puñales. The other short films include «Humanity,» «Dinosaurioak,» «Dar Dar,» «By Bear,» «I’m Not a Robot,» «Réel,» and «Pesudo.» The lineup of feature films includes «Chihiroren bidaia (El Viaje de Chihiro),» «20.000 especies de abejas,» «Irati,» «Grease,» «Robot Dreams,» «Bohemian Rapsody,» and «Llenos de gracia.»
Admission is free and seating can be reserved, with special spaces available for people with special needs.
The budget for the «Un verano de cine» initiative is part of the Participatory Budgets of 2025, allowing the people of Bilbao to propose and vote on how to use part of the annual budget of the City Council. This program aims to expand cultural offerings in the neighborhoods of Villa during the summer months, with activities for all audiences, aligning with the Cultural Strategic Plan of Bilbao 2023-2033.
