The event will bring together more than 250 exhibiting companies and 350 experts from May 13 to 15 at the BEC to promote efficiency and sustainability.
The major technological week of the food industry, F4F-Expo Foodtech 2025, will take place at the BEC-Bilbao Exhibition Centre from May 13 to 15, 2025, to showcase the latest innovations and solutions in automation, robotics, and Artificial Intelligence that are driving process efficiency in food production plants.
Under the motto ‘Smart Food Solutions’, it will gather over 8,000 industry professionals to learn about strategies and success stories that will continue to transform the industry to make it more efficient, sustainable, and technological, as reported by the organizers.
«The digitalization is the engine of efficiency in the food industry, and its drive is crucial to automate and enhance competitiveness. In a changing geopolitical context, we need a long-term vision to manage the future of food, for which Food 4 Future is becoming a space for stimulus and reflection,» pointed out Raúl Pérez Iratxeta, the Deputy Minister of Food and Rural Development of the Basque Government.
These sentiments were echoed by María Naranjo, the director of the agri-food industry at ICEX, emphasizing the importance of this meeting to establish a strategy for positioning the Spanish food industry in terms of innovation and to form alliances that project a strong image of Spain as an agrifoodtech nation.
Furthermore, Javier Dueñas, the president of Expo Foodtech and CEO of Campofrío, highlighted that «with a focus on the future of the food sector, this event continues to establish itself as a key space for collaboration with a long-term perspective.»
In this regard, Sergio Fabregat, the director of F4F-Expo Foodtech, stated that F4F2025 is positioned as a «transformative journey to redefine the food industry as we know it.» «We will welcome the future of the food industry with the incorporation of automation technologies, robotics, Artificial Intelligence, processing systems to advance towards improving efficiency and sustainability in production plants,» he added.
Therefore, more than 250 exhibiting companies will present their latest solutions in foodtech, robotics, and automation, processing and packaging machinery, as well as in food science and safety, covering various segments of the industry.
EXPO FOODTECH 2025
Over three days, food industry professionals can attend over 170 hours of conferences spread across five simultaneous auditoriums, where leading experts will come together to guide this journey towards the future of the sector.
They will do so at the Food 4 Future World Summit, the largest European congress in the field, bringing together over 320 speakers to share innovation and digitalization strategies. Additionally, the congress will explore a more comprehensive vision of food, not only as sustenance but as a concept that encompasses key aspects such as sustainability and innovation.
Rogelio Pozo, CEO of AZTI and director of the congress, pointed out that the industry faces challenges such as inflation, rising production costs, climate change, and evolving consumption habits. «Digitalization and efficiency will be essential to ensure the sector’s competitiveness, while sustainability must be integrated into all innovation strategies,» he affirmed.
He also emphasized the need for balanced regulation to compete on equal terms with imports and to attract talent in a sector undergoing transformation.
The implementation of technologies and innovations for more efficient and sustainable food production will be a highlighted topic during the sessions.
According to official figures, the deployment of solutions that reduce food waste and promote circular economy practices could save the global economy $700 billion annually.
Likewise, the rise of plant-based protein innovations will be addressed, in a context where the global plant-based food market is expected to reach $162 billion by 2030, driven by consumers’ increasing awareness of healthy eating and sustainable production. In addition, solutions to enhance food safety and quality will also be discussed.
All these trends will be addressed through specialized vertical forums for each industry segment (agritech, meat, beverages, bakery and pastry, fisheries, dairy) and specialized agendas for each professional profile (CEOs, CTOs, COOs, quality directors, production managers).
PICK&PACK FOR FOOD INDUSTRY
Following the success of last year, Pick&Pack for Food Industry, the only event in Spain specialized in packaging and logistics solutions for the food industry, will be held simultaneously with F4F-Expo Foodtech in 2025.
This new edition will highlight the latest trends in digitalization and sustainability for the packaging sector, as well as the fundamental role of logistics in the distribution of the food chain through the implementation of new technologies. Thus, Bilbao will once again become the global epicenter of a sector, that of food and beverages, which in 2023 reached a real production value of €162.459 billion in Spain.
Organized by NEBEXT and AZTI, F4F-Expo Foodtech is supported by the Bilbao City Council, the Bizkaia Provincial Council, the Basque Government, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, and ICEX, as well as other organizations and industry associations.
