
THE MAYOR OF BILBAO AND THE COUNCILOR OF SOCIAL ACTION VISIT THE COMMUNITY HOUSING FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE IN ZORROTZA TO KNOW ITS EVOLUTION
- The Mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, and the Councilor of Social Action, Juan Ibarretxe, visited the community housing in Zorrotza this morning to get firsthand knowledge of the people living there, its operation, and evolution.
- The housing can provide simultaneous direct attention to a total of 12 elderly people, and is mainly aimed at people in Grade I dependency situations.
- With a person-centered care model, the Zorrotza Community Housing aims to offer a living space where individuals can enhance their personal autonomy.
The Mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, and the Councilor of Social Action, Juan Ibarretxe visited the community housing in Zorrotza this afternoon, designed for individuals over 65 years old and primarily in Grade I dependency situations.
This municipal community housing, with a capacity of 12 spots, was launched in 2017 and has been managed since then by Aurrerantz, a cooperative society with significant experience in the care sector.
PERSON-CENTERED CARE MODEL
Since its opening in 2017, the Zorrotza Community Housing has aimed and continues to be the home for those individuals in Bilbao with Grade I dependency or at risk of vulnerability, where they can enhance their autonomy, capabilities, and skills to continue pursuing their life goals.
Based on the person-centered care model, focused on ensuring quality of life and respecting individuals’ preferences, it aims to foster and maintain familial relationships of the residents, promote healthy habits that enhance their physical and social well-being, encourage community participation, safeguard their mental and physical health, and prevent deterioration.
86% of the individuals living in the housing are assessed with Grade I dependency, and 42% of the users are over 70 years old.
