A large demonstration marched through Bilbao this Saturday, on International LGTBI+ Pride Day, to warn that, as long as «transphobia is a threat in our streets, trans resistance will be on the front line» and to make a call for «collective struggle.»
Organized by the E28 coordinator, the demonstrators set off at noon from La Casilla, led by a banner with the slogan ‘Against transphobia, collective struggle.’ After walking through the streets of the city center, the march, which was also joined by political representatives from parties such as EH Bildu, PSE-EE, Sumar, and Podemos, concluded near the City Hall with the reading of the day’s manifesto.
In statements to the media, Bryn Houndell Rio, a member of the platform, highlighted that this June 28th continues to be «a day of struggle» and, therefore, made a call «to organization and collective struggle.»
After reclaiming this event as «the Pride demo,» in contrast to the «parade with floats organized by a PNV bar,» he lamented that this year the march had to take place in the morning instead of its usual afternoon schedule, due to a «major event» happening at the Ría.
The coordinator’s representative emphasized that, «as long as transphobia is a threat in our streets, trans resistance will be on the front line.»
«As long as the commodification of our bodies, exclusion, the touristification of the city, and the ‘pinkwashing’ of LGTBIfobas, police, and racist institutions are a threat, we will be on the front line. Against fascism, against colonialism, against transphobia,» he insisted, warning that «on June 28th, we have everything to demand.»
