The Club asks attendees to arrive well in advance and use public transportation or walk to facilitate entry to the stadium.
On the occasion of the match that will take place this Thursday at San Mamés (9:00 p.m.), and given the expected high turnout, Athletic Club wishes to inform about a series of important recommendations regarding traffic flows and stadium access.
The gates of San Mamés will open at 7:30 p.m., an hour and a half before the start of the match. It is strongly recommended to arrive with plenty of time to avoid last-minute crowds. Furthermore, as already indicated in the communication issued last Monday, and following the recommendations of the Bilbao City Council and the Basque Government, it is requested that travel to San Mamés be preferably done on foot or by public transportation.
Pedestrian Access to San Mamés
For those walking or using public transport, the main entrance routes will be:
- Licenciado Poza Street: upon reaching the San Mamés esplanade, the direct access will be slightly diverted, so you must turn left and walk a few meters along Briñas Street to access the esplanade.
- Alameda de Urquijo: direct access available.
- Simón Bolívar Street: linking with Zunzunegui and descending via the Engineers’ stairs or by going down Sabino Arana Avenue and taking Pozas.
- Juan Antonio Zunzunegui Avenue: descending via the Engineers’ stairs.
Restricted Access
It is important to note that Sabino Arana Avenue (between Sagrado Corazón Square and Felipe Serrate Street) and Felipe Serrate Street itself (between Sabino Arana and Gate 19 of San Mamés) will be reserved for the visiting fans, so access will not be allowed in that area.
Those arriving via the Euskalduna bridge can reach Sagrado Corazón Square from the park side, but they will not be able to go up Sabino Arana. Instead, they should detour via Gran Vía and continue on María Díaz de Haro, to then take Licenciado Poza or Urquijo Street, as convenient.
Access to Entry Gates in Clockwise Direction
Access to the stadium gates will follow the clockwise direction. Gates 23, 24, 25, and 26, located at the front of the esplanade, will be directly accessible after entering via Pozas-Briñas or Urquijo.
Next, gates 1 to 13 are reached in the usual way via Rafael Moreno ‘Pitxitxi’ Promenade.
Finally, to avoid congestion from previous matches in the area behind the ticket offices (gates 7 to 13), fans heading to gates 14 to 20 will be advised to descend the stairs from Pitxitxi Promenade to Camino de la Ventosa and then slightly circle the stadium to reach the side where gates 14 – 20 are located.
Final Recommendation
Athletic Club requests the maximum collaboration of its fans to ensure a smooth and safe entry. It is essential to arrive earlier than usual, remain calm during entry, and follow the instructions of the organizing and security personnel at all times. Remember that if a person enters the esplanade and needs to enter through one of the side or rear gates, they must circle the stadium to the left, following the clockwise direction, as they cannot move directly to the right (Felipe Serrate Street).
Eskerrik asko for your collaboration. Aupa Athletic!!
