The National Police have arrested a fugitive from Justice wanted for gender-based violence who had fled to Ireland at the Port of Bilbao. The officers detected the presence of this individual, who had two judicial warrants issued by the Criminal Courts of Valladolid, in a truck inside the ferry from the Irish port of Rosslare, and he was taken into custody by judicial order.
According to a statement from the Government Delegation in the Basque Country, the arrest took place on the 20th. The arrested individual, 47 years old and a Bulgarian national with the initials I.T.I., had two judicial warrants for search, detention, and appearance (for breach of sentence) and for search, detention, and imprisonment, both valid since the spring of 2024.
The operation was activated after officers from the Foreigners and Borders Brigade stationed at the Port of Bilbao detected the presence of this individual on board a ferry from the port of Rosslare (Ireland) bound for the capital of Vizcaya.
Upon receiving the information and confirming the suspect’s identity, a surveillance and control operation was organized with the aim of identifying and arresting him as soon as he disembarked in the Spanish territory.
DETENTION
Once the ferry arrived at the port, the deployed officers acted as planned, locating the individual and fully identifying him. After verifying his documentation and confirming that he was the person sought for imprisonment, he was arrested.
The detained individual had two active records from two different Criminal Courts in Valladolid, which reinforced the need for immediate security measures.
After all relevant checks were completed, the detainee was transferred under police custody to the duty courts in Barakaldo, where he was placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority who ordered his imprisonment, where he will remain pending the resolution of the corresponding proceedings.
